The Works Progress Administration (W.P.A.) was the largest agency of FDR's "New Deal", employing millions of people. Over 2,000 posters were produced by the W.P.A. to raise awareness and support the arts.
I have a lot of admiration for these posters and a style of sign painters' lettering (sometimes called “gas-pipe”) that was common in the U.S. during the 1930s-'40s. WPA Gothic gets much of its inspiration from this poster in particular. This FontStruction stays true to the sample’s simple letterforms, but the FontStruct grid does present a few limitations. For more refined typefaces in this style check out DDC Hardware, Futura Display, FF Golden Gate Gothic, Refrigerator, and MVB Solano Gothic by some of my favorite type designers, two of which (Parkinson and Van Bronkhorst) are East Bay natives.
WPA Gothic has a few alternate glyphs hanging out in the Extended Latin slots with more to come.
To get a look at the typeface outside the confines of the FontStruct sampler, here's a sample poster.
May 25, 2008: Released a variation with low-waisted "deco" caps.
2019: 10 year anniversary update!
– Loosened the spacing a tad more.
– Added a few punctuation marks, including dashes, bullets, and inverted question/exclamation marks.
– Tightened ‘f’ spacing.
– Lengthened the quotes and apostrophes. They were so wee!
– And I fixed that Å! It’s not pretty, but it’s a ring.
I was inspired by the recent influx of minimal-grid fonts. I wanted to see if I, too, could manage to get a readable font with very few blocks and a small grid. This is a 3x3 font. I've used full square, indent square and quarter circle bricks. Maybe I can add a few more punctuation marks and symbol glyphs, but I found this size very restrictive. I have not looked through the fonts created since FS started, I suspect that what I have built here has already been done and apologise to any earlier creator but I honestly didn't copy nor clone your work.
This font has been made for my grandson who adores anything 'computer' although he is only a little over 1 year old :) I hope he'll like the 'technical/electronic' look of "his" font :) when he is old enough to use his dad's computer for homework (or writing to me?) ...
For the goddess Circe ... Elegant, feminine, joyful, rounded, with a positive swing to it. Working with shapes and 'frames' I made this for the "mix-and-match" set of decorative fonts called CIRCE. The caps can be used as a "majuscle" but might overload visually if used exclusively in a text? The LC are quite legible in smaller sizes. This font is part of a 5-font style set
My final entry in the competition. Inspired by Mazey, zlabyrinths eYe/FS, and wavelength. Each glyph has its own maze, and each maze connects with the next. Tilde ~ and low line _ connect words, grave ` closes beginnings and ends, and the left and right arrows < > are for the start and end. There are also some alternates in Extended Latin A. Suggestions and critiques are welcome. Thanks!

I built this font ignoring all knowledge and experience of brickwork and physics. Yet it stands up to use ;) Work in progress...
This is a clone of Free MasonryThis started elegantly thin with rounded corners and the name 'memoire', but it developed some electric sharpness through parallel angled lines ;) demanding that I remove curved corners. Work in progress, one of these days I'll add Polish or very basic Greek glyphs .
Tall and chunky decorative set of useful glyphs ... All letters are UC with the LC set having the thick vertical on the right. Has the same width as Changle N and Changle L so it can be used to increase visual impact of a text written with Changle.
This is a clone of Changle NChunky decorative basic set of useful glyphs. It has the same width as the other Changle fonts so it can be used with them for more visual impact. Changle consists of UC letters only, on the LC position are the UC with the thick vertical on the right.
I created this font for a game that I am working on called "Spektakel". The game is designed to help teenagers who are struggeling with learning dissabilities. This particular font was heavily inspired by "Open Dyslexic"
