My fontstruct, inspired by the Graffiti scene in Bristol, is simplified and rounded to fit the 24x24 limit. The fluid and intuitive outlines sometimes blur letters together and you rely on familliar shapes/curves to convey a letter.This is why I have created my font using negative space.

A re-design of Congealed. I based this design on the experiments I conducted on how the movement of various fluids differed on paper. I liked the Congealed typeface I created which is why I continued with this as the basis of each letter - I added in the viscosity by showing drips of various length. I feel that this gives the font an overall more interesting look and links directly to the theme fluid, which was the starting point of my project.

An italic font based on a theme of fluid. My research began with spending time in Bristol exploring the harbour and the rivers in the South West with resulted in a digital reinvention of the organic forms created by the natural environments created by water. This is a clone

Congealed is a typeface based around the theme Fluid. I took inspiration from the movement of fluid and based my research on fluid dynamics. After completing experiments looking into how different liquids dispersed within water, I used the forms from images captured to influence the characters; thus Congealed was born. Transferring my original letters onto Fontstruct created broken curves, which is why Congealed was a fitting title for the typeface (congeal: verb – to become semi-solid). The variation of the weight makes this font legible and I feel that because of this, each character is unique yet complimentary of one another.

Inspired by the word 'fluid', I looked at marks made by ink and water to create this spacious yet urban looking font. The heavy use of circles combined with illustrative ink splatters and irregular shapes create a spontaneous, fluid and messy typeface.

This font is the showing the fluidity of ink descending in water, having no container but taking gravity into consideration. Shapes are not predictable and form characteristic paths, where the letters are revealed within the negative space. Designed to be confusing to the eye this ‘trippy drippy’ font holds a sense of ambiguity which can be looked at from different perspectives, giving it a range of liquid based designs from juice packaging to water parks.

This typeface was inspired after researching into what the word fluid could mean. I looked into the form of liquid state and how it moved. I tried to replicate this with drawings but then had trouble replicating it in fontstruct. I think that this typeface is useful only for large scale use as its creates a dazzle when small, and is also only in capitals.

Wave Stroke, inspired by the theme of fluidity, is a decorative font for display use. The original concept was to have basic block sans serif letters that appears to be filling up with water. I then approached a more open design with the wave strokes being more decorative. The multiple strokes that make up the letters are influenced by the idea of flowing water. This is evident in it’s wave-like features which add elegance and a calming effect. I feel that Wave Stroke could be best used on signage for businesses such as the mind and body care industry and on book covers and publications. This is a clone

Starting from the word fluid I developed this font with the aim of incorporating several characteristics pertaining to the word itself. Each letter in the font flows from one to the next; a sense of motion continuing throughout. I looked at surface tension on liquids and tried to make the shape of the font reflect the constraints of this tension. I especially looked at wax turning from liquid to solid and the rigid shape it formed. It's quite simplistic so I would like to work more with it to see how I can include more texture that could link with the light reflections on the surface.

My font is based of the theme 'fluid'. I decided to take a more literal way of looking at fluid by taking a look at materials which are fluid and the nature of them. Looking at droplets on a table after it had rained made me realise the nature of the water on the table made the droplets appear edgy and distorted at some sides, so working from that research I created a typeface which replicated this in an exaggerated way by making the droplets curve in quite an angular/curvaceous manner. I found that this also created a futuristic vibe to the text as well. I think this typeface is better to be used on a large scale as when it is used on a smaller scale it is harder to see the detail within the typeface. This is a clone

This is my first typeface, it is based around the theme of "fluid". I was initially inspired by foreign alphabets/symbols/logograms. In particular, Arabic characters in a Chinese calligraphic style. While this start point could have lead to more experimental outcomes, I have chosen to keep the look simple so that it would be more versatile.

Aqua - a typeface inspired by the reflections, shadows, highlights and transparency of water. My starting point was the theme of fluidity, and I developed my ideas by making observational drawings of water in containers. At the same time I paid close attention to the letterforms of existing sans serif fonts, and was further informed by similar styles of type used in net art. Aqua's transparency lends a subtle quality, while its 3D appearance helps it to stand off the page.

When I started the project I was immediately drawn to script font and I paired this with the fluid theme to experiment with various ways of pairing the two. It started as a more random, decorative script font then evolved into a consistent letterform. After a lot of hours in Fontstruct I feel I was able to overcome some of the problems I had initially and was able to turn my ideas into an actual script based typeface. I would use this font for Titles and decorative purposes.

This is my first attempt at using Fontstruct, my aim was to create a typeface representing the word 'Fluid'. I played around with some ideas by looking at how reflections and water held in a bottle can distort something's appearance, looking at the nature of running water and rain drops run down windows. I noticed how randomly liquids can move in an open space and how there really are no repeated patterns in its movement if you look closely. To get my final outcome I tried writing out the alphabet with nail varnish and glue which gave a really blotchy effect and sometimes gaps in the letter, which I then combined with the nature of rain drops running down windows to get a really wobbly letter form.

This is my display font that I created based around the theme of 'fluid'. I began researching existing fluid related typefaces, then began to sketch my own ideas out, then brought them ideas into fontsruct. I tried to keep it as smooth as possible, so I worked to a small scale, to prevent and pixelation. I believe this would be a very useful font for halloween related design, or even christmas, as it also resembles snow melting. All feedback is appreciated.

I loved Yautja's music (can't remember where I found it). It inspired this font. ...*...*...*...*...*...*...*...*...*... The space is a blank length as usual, the ^ and ` are ovals over the baseline, the _ is a short baseline with a circle, the * a long wavey baseline and the , a short baseline with a straight descender. You can use a "." at the beginning of a sentence if you want that circle instead of the curve. I liked using the * in place of the space between words to get a long baseline carrying the "melody" of letters .....

Starting from the word 'squishy', I thought about how children play with very tactile things. If something has a tactile nature it will appeal to children to play with it and 'squish' it. From this I explored how sponges are very squeezable and photographed them in different ways. Alongside this thought process I was also sketching water in letter forms and loved how it appears to have a squishy texture in itself because it is fluid. Combining these ideas, I experimented with cutting sponges into letter forms, applying paint, squishing them and creating a typeface based on the marks they leave behind on a laminate table surface.

Looking for a different blackletter? Decade is your font. Each character of this broken, inky textura is a new fashion statement. It counts with Caps, lowercase and numbers. Not finished yet (still working on the rest of the set and accents) but fully usable for english speakers. Have fun! P.S: Any Idea for that uppercase T?

This font was created as part of a Graphic Design project at UWE, it’s based around the theme of Fluidity, I have taken inspiration from the flow water takes as it moves through water systems. The hollow inners on the letters are representing reflection inspired by bubbles and waters surface. My hand drawn sketches incorporated more natural & wider curves that I struggled to transfer on to fontstruct so was forced to simplify it because of the time schedule. I am currently still developing the font into something more elaborate that portrays the theme of fluid better, experimenting with tone and more ambitious ideas. All feedback is appreciated

This Fontstruction captivates the atmosphere of the seaside, combining playfulness and the motion of the water. This was for a project called "Found Type" for the Graphics Design course at UWE Bristol. I picked the theme 'fluid' and looked at how it can represent hundreds of different designs. For my font I purposely tried to avoid the obvious idea of drips or water droplets and went for something more subtle. I chose the sans-serif style as I prefer modern type to traditional, but also because it looks cleaner and flows better when written out. I looked specifically at pictures of the seaside from the 20th century as the beaches were busier and livelier, so I tried to encapsulate the vibrancy into a font without over-complicating the design.

Working with the theme 'fluid', I wanted to look at how rain spontaneously runs down objects. I found it interesting how the droplets accumulated so I incorporated it into the font by making parts of the letter thicker, leaving other parts to thin out.
