Fire experiments, erosion techniques, using the ends of matches and lighting in the shapes of letters, allowing the fire to depict where the darker burnt areas are.

A typeface created as part of our first project on the Graphic Design course at UWE. The project was to centre a typeface around a theme and to create the typeface on Fontstruct. My chosen theme was Motion. I chose to use the motion of water for the basis of my project and used its properties to distort and disfigure popular serif typefaces. After many experiments with baths, basins and trips to the local fountains Alphawet was created.

This is my font that I created for my University Brief.
I wanted to express energy with this font and designed it around the natural electrical build up of lightning.

Originally based on the word 'dynamic', which later led to the development of atoms and everyday structures. My idea is specifically based on 'The Generation of x-rays and Moseley's Law' atom, which led me to branch out and try and interpret everyday structures.

This san serif is a typeface using geometric, and digital inspiration. The use of the terminals is some of the letters was in an attempt to keep the lines from not being doubled up with a thick width. The end result is a simple san serif.

Balloon Face
A fun typeface with a hand rendered feel, inspired by the art of balloon sculpturing. Also a take on the popular graffiti style of bubble writing, as seen and researched in bristol city centre.

First of all i was looking at architecture and the curve designs on the collumns of buildings, then moving on with my idea i started by experimenting with ink, looking at how it reacts in water, and filming ink being dropped into water. I then moved onto simply dropping ink into and page to see how it fell, then using the dropplets i created this font.

This typeface is 1 of the responses I had towards the word 'order'. It's not the most intricate of designs, but conveys the idea of order in the form of receipts clearly. This brief was created by my degree course.

The finished product from the first communicating with words module at UWE in Bristol. My font is based on the word 'Ornate'. At first I started looking at Iron gates, Jewelry, but after spending about a week trying to make curves on fontstruct and failing each time, i decided to look at native american print and aztec design. This typeface has been created based on the theme "Energy". During my research, I have been exploring "Energy" from different points of view, from the essence of it, to scientific bases and other concepts like positive and negative energy in different contexts.
The work has been inspired by the scientific way, more concretely in Nikola Tesla's experiments in the area. I found interesting how energy is created in a specific point and spreads creating different shapes.
The typeface is also inspired by "Futura" typeface due to the time relationship between the creation of it and the experimentation period of Tesla.
This is meant to be a display typeface, but I think it can work in a medium or big size.
It ended up being quite "blocky", which I am not sure about, so all comments are welcome.

My Final 'Sharp' Fontstruct that I created for my University project in Graphic Design.
I thought for a long time what to do with the font and decided to try make it quite clean but different at the same time. My main focus on this Font was to make sure it was clean enough to read without any difficulties. That i think i've achieved.

I created this typeface when set a typography task on my Graphic Design project at UWE. My chosen theme is 'Energy' I took this further by looking into energy drinks and their existing products' labels at the moment. I was inspired by the effective look of bubbles so based my typeface on this. Every letter's bubbles are different which makes it a unique font. This typeface would be best suited promoting events, products and maybe awareness advertising that are linked with fizziness, water or drinks etc. This is a clone

I started this typeface from the word 'chaos', and from that word looked into things like wars and riots; ineffectually looking into the after affects of chaos. This led me to look into such large scale events as Hiroshima, and the wreckage of that chaos inspired this typeface.

The simplistic font In arms was created around the theme of curves. I was interested in the curves of the human form (primarily the form and shapes of the arms and hands) The font is not perfect and not symmetrical, just like the human form.

a typeface centred around the key theme/word 'shadow'. I started looking at how the time of day effected the shape and the size of the subsequent shadow cast. However, I then moved onto the ideas of bevels and a more subtle shadow effect created by raised centres of the letterforms. The 'impossible triangle' effect came from a idea that was brought up in a critique about 'extending it and making it really elaborate'. The name is chosen because I think that typefaces should have friendly names.

Font based on the ergonomics of a knife. Because of the wide nature of the font, its best to use it on a large scale.

inspired by analysing ques forming, mainly at pubs. In addition to experimention with double sided sticky tape and corrigated card to reflect results found. I think the font has a 'tribal' aesthetic about it consequently, first fonstruction...first year project at UWE... theme chosen was 'order' (work in progress)

I created this font for a graphic design project at bristol uwe. A font inspired by door handles, gates, anything that has an 'entrance' and is ornate looking. Alot of my research was carried out in Bath. I experimented with photography and wire to start with but mostly focused on drawing. The main elements to my type are vines and swirls. This is a clone

When be began the project on designing my own typeface, I had to design and create it relating to a specific theme. I chose to focus my design on the theme of 'Decay'.
From the beginning, I wanted to create typeface which represented a very basic idea of the the theme of Decay. I looked at all possible avenues that I could take into design consideration and ended up coming with some interesting concepts I could use.
I started looking at the idea of Decay throughout technology. I began taking photos as well as researching forms of decay in technology. The one aspect which kept coming up were computer keyboards. I found plenty of images of keyboards with decay, which then acted as a key influence for my work.
The idea for having my typeface created in the style of computer keys was quite unique to me. When in the creation process, I created the key design as well as the letter-forms which I had mapped out using graph paper. I was then to add the appearance of decay to the letter-forms afterwards.
I then started coming up with styles of decay I could incorporate into the letter-forms. I wanted to have a clear representation of the theme, but keep it in the style/representation of computers. i.e Pixels.
I messed around with one of the letter-forms with a basic pixel appearance of decay. When zoomed in, it didn't look like the standard I wanted it to be, but when zoomed out, the pixels came together to present the them in detail. I then went ahead and applied the feature to all of the letter-forms and punctuation symbols. The typeface was finally complete.

A project dealing with the subject of order for UWE's communicating with words project at degree graphic design. Inspiration coming from the traffic system, in particular the way that junctions have been designed to direct traffic and keep order at the same time.
