This font was inspired by the images seen from the Hong Kong protests and the use of the umbrella as a symblom for there movement. I made the font based of pre exsisting letter forms to show china's forceful additions to Hong Kong law.

I created this typeface based on the theme ‘Hope’. While being or becoming blind is extremely hard, there is always light after the dark, even for the people who cannot see. I tried to include every character from the Braille alphabet (white dots) to the original English alphabet (black dots), so it would be learnt and understood easily.
As a first year graphic design student at UWE this is my first attempt at creating a typeface on Fontstruct based around the theme of ‘hope’. Looking at this theme I explored the words; dream, desires and wishing leading me to the classic phrase, ‘when you wish upon a star’ and have therefore, based my typeface on stars. Through research, I looked at the patterns and layouts of star constellations to find that they are only made up of straight lines and circles, which is why I have formed a simple lettering using only these two basic forms, incorporating the concept of star constellations.
"SEAWEED' is a decorative font inspired through my research into the protection of the oceans. Through this research I was intrigued by the way that a simple thing like planting seaweed could possibly hold the key to reversing ocean acidification.
This font takes inspiration from traditional pub signs. The wide variety of different fonts utilized in these signs caught my interest. Trying to emulate and create original letters inspired by the signs would prove a great challenge within the 24x24 grid restriction. I think the font captures the idea of competition between 'The Local's, as they tussle to have the most eye-catching designs on their signs, as every letter in my font is as eye-catching as the next. Many of the letters are individual variations of Blackletter (Old English), bold and lightly serifed type.
BS1 Ink-Bleed is a typeface made for "What The Font?" project
As you can see I was inspired by different graffiti and tags that I saw on Bristol streets. I decided to use simple style letters for better readability in this small grid.
I wrote each letter on cardboard, and pixelated on computer after that. I like that this method gives nice distortion/noise and nice realistic shapes.

Circus (Decorative font)
This is a clone of Bevan's DecorativeThe font is based around the theme 'messy'. Each letter is inspired by messy paint/ink strokes; therefore no letter is exactly the same as another. However they all work well as a whole complementing eachother with small similarities. The font is designed to be used for headers, for example art posters or flyers. It could be used for big bodies of text, however slightly less suitable as it may become harder to read if it's made too small. The font could also be used in any colour and still grab attention!
bowl and counter is a typeface created with variety of geometric shapes,
which has a squishy and playful side of personality.
It was inspired by the well-known design Sinaloa Rosemarie Tissi in the 1970s.
I was really captivated by the beauty of adding elements of geometric shapes into basis letters, and I really wanted to recreate in the letter's bowls and counters by presenting them a technical, modern, and a futuristic flair look.
This is a font that I designed in relation to the word ‘unstable’. My font is inspired by the classic block game Jenga where players take in terns to pull a block hopefully not knocking over the tower. With this font, I am trying to communicate that although something might look stable, one subtle movement could cause it to come tumbling down.
Distressed is an uppercase font focusing on the theme destruction. Within this element I looked more specifically at mental health and how social media has an affect on our mental wellbeing. I created a cracked and distressed effect on each individual letter to visually express the pressure and insecurity we can experience from social media.
My fontstruct is based on the theme of theatre. The designs were achieved from my observations of some theatres in Bristol, as well as further research online. The main inspiration came from the achitecture around the stage curtains, which then lead me to a more art-deco style appoach.
For my first project for the type introduction, I was set the challenge based of an initial project topic. My exploration originally consisted of looking at the word 'Filthy' further on to 'Dirty'. For my first step of topic exploration, the word Dirty initially related to looking at fast foods and oily foods eg. 'dirty burger' after looking at this I created a more indepth, zoned in idea of Diabetes. My final font has been drawn from the idea of looking at chemical structures of insulin and their bonds.
Albatros is the result of a research on the correlation between genius and mental instability in great artists, philosophers and poets. As in Baudelaire's poetry, it symbolises those who are misunderstood and thus isolated and derided. The albatross is a clumsy bird, but once in the sky and raised over the mass it shows everyone its great wingspan. We are all albatrosses until we are given the opportunity to discover the wings power.
This san serif font is inspired by the concept of ‘Community’. I explored the idea of unhealthy, anti-communities and real life examples of them, which lead me to Hollywood. Hollywood, beneath all the glamour, proves to often be a toxic community, considering the examples of misogyny, racism and sexual abuse that has taken place within the community. I wanted to recreate the iconic Hollywood sign and modify it to have cracks appearing, representing the real-life cracks appearing in Hollywood’s community. These cracks will represent examples such as Harvey Weinstein and the #MeToo movement.
My font is inspired by Navajo rugs and blankets and the main theme I went with was ReBirth. I thought this was fitting as the Navajo people create these rugs to tell a story of there beliefs and religion, which has been implemented in this font but instead, the words can tell the story and the design is inspired by the Navajo rugs and blankets.
