Based upon the Greek alphabet but twisted into something slightly reminiscent of Zeus and his Godly lightning powers.

I made this typeface based on my chosen theme continuous. When I first thought of the word ‘continuous’ I saw never ending lines and continuous loops between letters. As it was my first typeface I have created using fontstruct I decided to go with a simplistic approach by creating my typeface to be square and blocky. I began by creating a 3D word out of paper using this typeface and photographing it with the use of directional lighting to create a shadow. It was from this I got the idea of duplicating each letter and placing it above the original at a slant to resemble the shadow from the photograph I had taken. I was still able to keep with my theme of continuous by connecting both letters in a continuous loop.

This decorative typeface was created around the idea of a playful letterform. Inspired by Stefan Sagmeister's letterings my goal was to create a design that has similarities to a handwriting font. The idea of 'light bulb' comes from the movie headlines in the 20's.

This typeface is based on the theme ‘Disintegrate’.‘Crumble’ is a synonym for disintegrate, so when I experimented with physical forms of demonstrating my chosen theme I made an alphabet out of biscuits. My typeface ‘Crumble’ is bold and made up of Capitals, I think it is more diverse than most as it differs quite a lot between each letter and punctuation symbol, this is because I felt that no one piece of biscuit will disintegrate in the same way and this is what I wanted to portray through my typeface. All comments and feedback are appreciated.

My first project as a student at UWE studying Graphic Design was to create a font using FontStruct. I chose to develop the theme messy, I thought to myself ‘what makes a mess?’ This led me to the idea of toast, it’s messy and especially when burnt. I cut letters out of burnt toast, I really liked the effect it had made therefore it influenced me to develop it further within FontStruct. I decided to use Helvetica as a guide purely for its simple, clean letterforms, hence why I have named my typeface ‘Burnt Helvetica’. I wanted to really capture the essence of the burnt areas with shading, therefore my inspiration came from cutting the burnt toast around a Helvetica letter template, photographing it and printing it on graph paper. Due to the nature of the font being messy I wouldn’t use it on anything formal or of importance, I feel that it would be suitable to be used within children associated designs, definitely food related designs and perhaps something rather playful or of course, messy. This is my first attempt using FontStruct all feedback is welcome.

For my Fontstruction I chose the theme condensed, which was part of our typography brief on our Graphic Design course at UWE. With my theme being condensed, I went with a very skinny typeface, this is because I was going to call it anorexic. On certain letters that have right angles I added an inner curve, to represent how skinny a human body goes when anorexic. The hardest part of this, was the limitations of FS and trying to get around them, this includes letters like M, N, W, R & K. Once I knew how to nudge and stack blocks, the challenge of combining blocks to make the correct letters wasn't as hard. This typeface isn't based on any current typeface.
