In 1983, Atari released the Crystal Castles video game. You play Bentley Bear walking around castles and collecting gems. Trimetric instead of isometric. Interestingly enough, the initials of the highest scorer in the leaderboard is used to build the first castle.
This font version is created using the same thin plated tiles that the player traverses through the castles.
This was fun to do. I made the sample scroll down in like another 80s video game classic: Marble Madness. It was difficult fitting the whole thing within 48 grid squares, but totally possible. This was actually kept a little under at 46.This is a clone

well another escher inspired set. however with this one i was also influenced by the soma cube - which is very escheresk itself. actually i don't know if i'm more happy about this set which is much more simple and clean than my previous efforts or that i finally googled upon the soma cube which i had as a kid and wasted many hours playing with...much like now with fs :)
thanks to frodo7 with Homage a Escher and shasta with Escheresk for providing great examples of clarity and inventiveness of design in this genre.
It looks quite simple, and in the end, it was, though getting to the end was anything but. This font appears as a clone of ookii because that's where I started it, thinking I'll just add the shadows. Getting the shadows to look natural and line up properly in every character was a geometric challenge. I ended up redrawing the whole thing three times over--in incremental step up of scale before getting it right. I love doing fonts like this one. This is a clone

Mostly inspired by the video game QBert, which was, I'm sure, partly inspired by M. C. Escher.
IsoMatrix was a font long before Fontstruct, and was much harder to realize with bricks than vectors.
This one is shared thanks to the intricate 3D output of the following fontstructors:
shasta's Escheresk,
frodo's Hommage a Escher,
and
funk king's Soma.
It is also released for Em42, because it was created purely with the original set of bricks that Fontstruct started out with. This is a clone
