I wanted to create my font based around the theme of cracks in buildings. I took Inspiration from the formation of cracks in buildings. Everyone is familiar with cracks in bricks, concrete blocks and walls of houses and how some of these cause structural instability. They take on all sorts of shapes and sizes. They can start thin and then widen following a zig zag path between points that resembles a lightening bolt. I want to recreate this cracking within my font. I started with a font style that had curves and straight edges associated with different building styles. I then constructed cracks from potential weak spots in the letters. I diffused the edges of these cracks to try and demonstrate crumbling concrete.
This font is based on the word 'systematic'. I started looking at more digital fonts, for example, the font on your average digital alarm clock, but i moved towards glitches, finding a way to make a glitch font exciting, i looked at glitches in screens but that's been done hundreds of times. I thought about human glitches such as memory loss, i researched alzheimer's and dimentia and got a lot of inspiration from that. Forgetica- a play on words.
This is my fonstruct, my letters are based on the words and themes of Filth and Obscenity. I was inspired by instagram models, life drawing and delicate fabric. I was influenced by body shapes, delicacy of satin and the detail of patterns found at the hem of the womens underwear. I wanted to subvert the image of filth with something more elegant and fine.
Inspired by the combination of digital code, alien inscription and bold Greek and Russian typography; this font was created with "confident" being the main theme.
The visual features of confidence have been a focal point in the production of this font. Generally, confidence is associated with being bold and comfortable with ones self. But since a font is far from being human, I wanted to specifically focus on the combination of poise and shape.
Words are often read by looking at the shape and not spelling, what I have attempted to do with this typeface is to make the reader focus more on the letters within the words.
As the name suggests, Balky can be awkward to read due to some of the letters looking similar, as well as its chunky build, making people have to use the context of the sentence. I hope this will make an impact on how well people engage with some text as well as being aesthetically interesting.
This is a cloneCārakkaṭṭu means "scaffolding" in the oldest language in the world: Tamil. Why use Tamil and what does this have to do with this font? Well, Tamil is the foundation of all modern languages, it is the earliest form of verbal communication. I am exploring what makes a building stable or unstable, so; you need strong foundations for a good building, but scaffolding if it becomes unstable. Cārakkaṭṭu represents the foundations of a building that has become unstable, and needs to be repaired again.
This typeface shows impracticality and functionless. Like a decoration, this type has no function or use beyond being just something to look at. Each character is collapsing downwards with the different shapes in each letter slipping apart from each other. Some letters have completely collapsed whereas others are still falling apart.
Inspired by perspective and architectural drawings, this font was a response to the word 'systematic'. The purpose for the design of the font was to create the effect of seeing each letter in two different perspectives. I was initally inspired by my grandad, who was an architect, showing me some of the designs he had drawn throughout his career and seeing how complex and techinal each one was, and how by using perspective you can create a three-dimensional effect on a two-dimensional scale.
'STANDARD' - This font was influenced by systematic shapes and objects.
I looked at stencils and stamps and the forms they create and incorporated this idea by constructing gaps in each character to create an overall stencil style.
Each character is the same width and height and almost bound by how much space they fill. I found similar patterns and rules in systematic objects which is why I tried to incorporate that into my font.
I based this typeface off the theme of introversion, and so went about creating a font that worked from the idea of the unseen, less obvious shadows of the letterforms, using arrows and angles to continue the theme of what is internal and not what the eye sees immediately.
This typeface is based on the stigma around word ‘unstable’ in relation to mental health. Inspired by artists who deal with mental health issues, specifically looking at Yayoi Kusama and her ‘Dots Obsession’ series in which she recreates hallucinations of repetitive patterns that she sees on her surroundings.
Petri is a font inspired by the theme "unstable".
The main influence of this font was bacteria.
The font is supposed to represent the growth of bacteria with in a petri dish. I created this effect mainly through weight of line, by using a range of squares, this enabled me to create different amounts of space within the letters making it so that some areas are spaced out and some are crowded. The mixture of size helps portray a loose and some what fuzzy visual which I feel accurately represents the spread of bacteria.
This is a cloneI designed this font based on the word 'Thunderous'. My thinking in how the word relates is due to the Norse God Thor. I then started to look in to old Norse culture, this got me interested in runes. So with deeper research in to the Futharks spawned this type.
"Energy" was created with my chosen theme "energetic". I developed my ideas from researching into neon light lettering and after that, looked into circuit boards. I then created guidelines which I would create the fonts within in order to make my type font as consistent as I could. This is version 2; very similar to version 1 but with minor tweaks.
This is a cloneJUNCTION is a typeface created from the intersection of two circles.
It was created in order to represent an INTROVERT (person who RETREATS mentally) theme. The intersection of the two circles symbolizes the limitations that the characters fit in to.
Geometries and grids are some of my interests and these are what inspired my ideas.
This typeface was created based on the theme of confidence and all about being flamboyant. Excess serifs are a fantastic way to present boldness in this form, so my aim was to create a sharp typeface with unnecessarily long serifs at the end of letters. The name emergent came from the idea that my font, with its shadow and serifs, should emerge and become prominent. It is emergent.

Wave takes further inspiration from the methodology of Wim Crouwel and his use of grids and allignment using a dot matrix to create systematic letterform
This is a cloneCrystal Clear is a decorative typeface that was inspired by crystals and precious stones.
I bought a couple of different crystals and based the typeface on them, some of the crystals used were rose quartz, fluorite, smokey quartz, clear quartz and a couple of other ones. Some of these stones were already cut and not in their natural form, unlike the rest which were rough looking and not cut to a certain shape.
Malnutrition can be seen as an epidemic of the 21st century. Not only is Starvation continuing to rise in less economically developed countries; Countries who have the resources to be healthy choose a malnourished lifestyle.
It Is not uncommon to only associate malnutrition with not eating enough substantial food; however, it also extends to eating too much food. Both contribute to the crisis and this is why I wanted to incorporate both obesity and anorexia into my typography.
My typography resembles the stretching of skin as if its being pulled into a new and more desired position. This is a common emotional response to malnourishment and obsessions with weight.
This typeface was created from the theme of gregarious. Inspired mainly by the idea that we as sociable creatures live in society amongst people. To create the letter forms I walked around the city of Bristol, mapping my routes, therefore creating my typeface through interacting with the city constricted by the buildings around me. This typeface focuses on displaying clearly the path I took.
I created Pixel Volume Two through exploring the theme of ‘Systematic’. I researched different systems in relation to my theme, and eventually came across gaming systems. Specifically looking at retro game design, I began exploring the application of the pixel form/square shape in fonstruct. I explored both serif and sans serif outcomes, creating a full typeface for both styles, however I felt the sans serif outcome fit the theme better.
For this project I was given the word "systematic" as inspiration. I looked into the imagery within the chinese military, looking at how the ordering and the syncronisity created an almost optical illusion effect. Because of this the military force looks more powerful than it may actually be, which is something I was intrested in capturing in my font. The typeface is rigid, geometric, and sans-serif.
This is a clone of Formation QB (first draft)I constructed this font with the idea of wires 'trapping' the letters. I wanted the font to be sans-serif, looking like Futura/Gill Sans. My theme was 'energetic' and at first I was looking more into food specifically and how we gain energy but then I took a different approach trying out different ways that I can portray electricity. Finally, I experimented with cutting out letters from pizza cardboard boxes and putting wires around them to try and make the digital fontstruct version look more realistic and accurate.
This is my first typeface made in Fontstruct and it is a part of my degree. The theme of the project is “Rebirth”. With this Fontstruction I am trying to revamp some of the typefaces being used for headlines and drop caps in books or newspaper. I am aiming for a more boxy and modern look, by some separations in the structure of the letters. My main inspiration came from sci-fi books and encyclopedias.

This is my first Construction based on the theme of "Rebirth". I chose this theme as I wanted to investigate how a country is "reborn" after a war or a revolution. This led me to read an article about graphic design ideas that came from the Russian Revolution. One of them was Constructivist typography-combination of contrasting shapes and sizes. I looked at the work of El Lissitzky and Alexander Rodchenko. From this research I began to cut out shapes of different sizes and began to construct letters- however, this idea didn't translate well in FontStruct. To widen my research, I looked at Constructivist and Soviet Brutalist architecture which my font was inspired by. It reflects buildings like the Polytechnic Institute of Minsk, The Palace of Ceremonies, and the Georgian Ministry of Highways in Tbilisi.
I created this hand written font based around one of the most protective materials used by parents to safeguard their children, specifically cotton wool balls. I arranged the cotton balls to create the structure of each character and then scanned the image into the computer to create the digitilised version. I decided I wanted to create the font in a handwritten, childish/immature style taking inspiration from the logos and typography used on children's books and shops.
