A punk in a suit: the initial inspiration for this font came from the theme 'loud'. My thought process was that actions speak louder than words, and the Punk movement in the ‘70s helped people through a lot of social and economic unrest; punk communicates effectively. Consequently, I approached creating a typeface with the DIY mentality of punk. I observed the approach of Jamie Reid, the zine culture and various band posters to identify with the distinctive cut and paste style. I then considered how this could be used to communicate with more than one audience at once while retaining the punk aesthetic. This led me to create a typeface which is conflicted between serif and sans-serif; it features jerky counters contrasting with chipped bowls; it’s a font designed to appear cut up and pasted back together in line with the traditional ethics of DIY punk. Inspired by the University/Varsity type faces I thought it might be useful to have a related font with a few added serifs.

This font is the showing the fluidity of ink descending in water, having no container but taking gravity into consideration. Shapes are not predictable and form characteristic paths, where the letters are revealed within the negative space. Designed to be confusing to the eye this ‘trippy drippy’ font holds a sense of ambiguity which can be looked at from different perspectives, giving it a range of liquid based designs from juice packaging to water parks.
