VIKING is a false-historical font evolving from Elder Futhark Runes. This runic typeface is based upon the ancient Germanic symbols later adapted by the Goths, Anglo-Saxons, Vikings, The Third Reich, and within Fantasy genera, depicted as Dwarven Runes. ELDER VIKING is almost an exact interpretation of Elder Futhark plus a few extra characters corresponding as a best fit to the basic 26 upper-case Latin characters. MIDDLE VIKING is the second generation evolution Rune based upon Elder Futhark. Designed as a semi-cryptic, visually interesting type but intended to be almost-readable as a Latin equivalent (unlike ELDER VIKING), MIDDLE VIKING contains numeric runes and basic punctuation. YOUNGER VIKING is the third generation rune type which is a fully modern interpretation of Elder Futhark. YOUNGER VIKING, a.k.a. "SPACE VIKING" contains all upper and lower-case fonts as well as numbers and various punctuation.

Excellent tryptic of fonts with a beautiful sense of balance.

Thank you for the short historical background of Viking runes. It was so interesting, I've spent two hours reading about ancient Viking culture.

Your work, a Latin adaptation apparently, is nice, but feels a bit sterile. It doesn't have the robustness, or the distressed antique look one might expect. But it's a good starting point. 10/10

I appreciate the comments so far. I would stress that this is a make-believe historical font that culminates into "Space Viking". I envisioned a Retro-Futuristic world where the Vikings rose to world domination and now are raiding other planet systems for glory, gold and the promise of dining in Valhalla after a glorious death on the battlefield (where ever that may be). Hence the refinement from rock-etched runes to a more "sterilized", yet still hyper-aggressive font-type. Younger Viking represents a dominant font-type in the fake future-date range of the 23 Century A.D.

Yay! I just raised the rating up by .2 stars! Could you make this clone-able, so I can edit it?
Comment by zachariffic 6th April 2012
I you don't make it clonable, I will drop the ratings on all of your fonts drastically.
Comment by zachariffic 6th April 2012
@zachariffic: That's not the way things work around here. Ratings are meant to reflect how good we think a design is - not a way of trying to blackmail someone!

If you want a different version of this font ... try creating it yourself. You are new here and, I guess, fairly young - we are always happy to help people get started with FontStruct, but don't like to see people being bullied.

In fact Goths, Anglo-Saxons and Vikings are GERMANIC.
