STF_WALDBAUER — Condensed modernist Bauhaus sans
═══════════════════════════════════
This is rather a heavily condensed sans that sits halfway between a Bauhaus and Art-Deco style lettering.
The low waist, tall x-height, long ascenders and deep descenders give this font a somewhat elegant appeal. The uppercase set is clearly Art-Deco inspired, whereas the lowercase set leans more towards a playful Bauhaus mondernist style. Several characters have filled enclosed parts or other exaggerated features as well as non-filled alternate forms.
The idea for this font was inspired and extracted from a 1930s poster ad by Pál Vince for luxury luggage company Waldbauer.
The FontStruction's x-height is 3,5×1 grid units, so its tiny!
I hope you like it,
Cheers

I genuinely have no idea how you do so much with so little space; this is really good considering the constraints!
This one snuck past the radar upon publication. The thin/heavy components in the tiny space are excellent!
Charming project.
FS PATRON TIME!
Thanks for the kind words fella's...

This is great. I like it a lot. Perhaps, you could make a colour version with red counters. Again, it was good to see the historical background. 10/10
Pál Vince, another Hungarian émigré, was an architect and interior designer. He studied in Stuttgart and Düsseldorf, but his German diploma was not accepted in Hungary. Because of his Jewish origin, he was sent to a forced labor camp in 1944. He escaped and went into hiding until the end of the war. His works were largely forgotten until recently.
@Frodo7: Yes, he had to go through a lot before finally being able to fully embark on his creative pursuit. And what a showcase of absolute determination and mental strenght to not let the test of time get in the way of his creativity.
Thanks for the approval my friend.
BTW: I can not do a colour version, since I'm not a patreon, thats why I included the "filled" segments in isolation. That is how I made the coloured overlays.

This is a beautiful hommage to the late artist. In 2011, the Chamber of Architects organized an exhibition in Budapest dedicated solely to Pál Vince and his works.
@Frodo7: There is little to zero documentation on the internet about Pál Vince, not even on Wikipedia. So very few people have actually heard of him. His work largely remains obscure, hidden and stored away in non-public library archives, or sit in private collections. Most of his works therefor has never been digitally catalogued as a result.
@Sed4tives: Well, he was an architect, and after the war, he worked for the state. His plans and blueprints must be stored in state archives. He designed the restoration of several large buildings after Budapest's 1944-45 siege, combining the modern Bauhaus style with classic elements. Most of his beautiful Bauhaus buildings, large and small, are still standing, I presume. Some of his furniture designs must be in the Museum of Applied Arts, Budapest. Art historians have much homework to do: research, sort, and catalog his works as part of our cultural heritage.
PS: I have to correct myself. Pál Vince was sent to a forced labor camp in 1943 and escaped in 1944.
I noticed you consistently misspelled the word "therefore".
@Frodo7 thanks, can't unsee it.
LOL, yes I am aware of my constant and steady generous stream of type-hoes. Its just that I don't actually even try that hard really to ensure correct spelling. Simply because, when in the past I actually was trying, it would than later turn out to be that a text I wrote could still be littered with misspells. And in reality it wouldn't matter if I would've "double-checked" or even "double-double-checked" a text. Time and again —like a malediction— the gross majority of these texts had a spelling error, one at the very least.
Worse still, was that it wasn't just when I was writing a comment, it happened just as easily when I was composing sample images for fonts. I pretty much never use tools that assist with, or (auto-) spellcheck, nor Gizoogle-translate.
—So yeah, u gotta smackle me damn heroin… "Me-is-a sooorry!"
Coincidentally a funny twist about this whole thing now is that these typo's sort of became the equivalent of an "easter-egg"-like trademark for many of my font sample images. And since FontStruct only allows changing a comment during this breef little moment right after submitting it, but by the time I would than find out changes could no longer be made. So many of my submitted samples here on FontStruct are, myeah well, lets call it hard to beat! 🫣 🫣
Nowadays I no longer fight my little quirk, and for arts I have now more like adopted the oddity into the creative ethics.
Nonetheless, thanks..
I'm sorry, but I disagree. Your English is excellent, and your text is usually well-composed, with very few typos, if any. I thought it was a pity you couldn't spell that single word correctly - it could be a subconscious interference with your Dutch (daarvoor).
On the other hand, I don't believe you are telling the whole truth. You are a perfectionist who takes great care to deliver the highest-quality work. Meticulous assembly of letters, attention to detail, and diligent documentation are the hallmarks of your output. I can't imagine you don't care about spelling.
I know this because I'm a perfectionist myself — a hopeless one, fighting a losing battle against errors, imperfections, dirt, and deterioration. It's a never-ending war against entropy. I make sure that the small part of reality I control, including my text, is error-free. I use Grammarly and Google, but ChatGPT will be an even better assistant in the future.
I tell you something else. When people start neglecting fine details, such as correct spelling, it is usually the first sign of mental decline. It could begin at any age. A case in point is texting on a mobile phone. At first, they start using abbreviations instead of wholesome words and forgo diacritical marks altogether. As a result, they save a lot of mental effort and type faster. Later, however, they completely forget how to type a normal text.
PS: I see your creative spark has returned. I'm glad.
"I tell you something else. When people start neglecting fine details, such as correct spelling, it is usually the first sign of mental decline."
—Something that I increasingly face more and more over the last decade or so. Things that 25 years ago took hardly anything, like short term memory span, learning a new craft, absorbing complex scientific matter, all run at ever slower pace. Something that became more apparent in more recent years, when I started coding.
The difficulties this imposed on me was what truly shed light on how strongly one could have to rely on their metaphysiological wellbeing. Writing code gave me this cold hard reality-check that pointed out the general decline of this inner balance between what I preceive, and what systems my intuition then allows me to tap into. Its no longer that Gasolina-24/7 affair like how things used to be back when I was still in my late teens.
Some 20 odd years of touring and performing music, taking loads of (Ehhm); cake, milk and sugar, and the extensive heavy tax all this "Livin'-la-vida-LOCA" had, definitely took its toll, I can tell u that.
But…
‥such crazy goodness typically come at a cost, and I totally aware of the very pact I signed up for.

—Only rumors! 🤭
Very nice recreation, Sed4tives.
Frodo7's breadth of knowledge is known yet pleasant to see every time.
A Ball Font
great work, this is actually a nice recreation!
Congrats on this new TP and your rejuvenated desire to fight and break roles here, compañero!
@RobMeek: Thanks for the pink star of appreciation boss.
As well as thanks to everyone else for your kind words.
Interesting.
how condense
Very impressive!
Why do you have two versions of 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 9?
Does "STF" mean anything?
@davilarichard683: Its an abbreviation for "Sed4-Type Foundry"
