Good eyes Intaglio. The three dots and bar represented here in the "I" make up the numeral 8 in Mayan numerals.

Very nice. Love how it's possible to come up with so many variations of letter forms on a tight grid. This one looks like an 8x8 grid, I've done similar version on 5x5 and 10x10 grids for different effects. The subtle variation in characters while retaining some readability is fascinating.
