Based on a typeface which was used in the opening credits of The Terminator, The Running Man, Class of 1999, and also used on Robert A. Heinlein's book covers (there's a font called Heinlein which is similar). I've been looking for the original for a long time but haven't found it, so I recreated it myself. (Edit: apparently it's called Bessellen)

Now updated to be closer to the original, plus added kerning.

@Yautja -- Congratulations on a terrific sci-fi re-creation. You did a nice job on this one, and the Top Pick is well deserved.

Nice. You really need to try selling your fonts, these kind of fonts are well sold.
Looks like R will better fit with a diagonal.

@architaraz thanks, but I'd rather keep my fonts free, plus this isn't my design originally.

This reminds me of a font called "Dungeon"; then again, that may be the font you were searching for? I love this, by the way. :)

Known as Besslin from Monsen Typographers, Inc. I believe Monsen had offices in Chicago and Los Angeles too, which explains why it's been featured in several films.

The original name is Bessellen. It was issued by VGC (Visual Graphics Corporation) between their 1972 and 1973 catalogs. I’ve compiled some info about Bessellen on Fonts In Use, and uploaded a scan of the full glyph set to Flickr.
