Your Pattern in the sample above seems like an opart answer to the new TimBurtonesque font by Kix : It looks alike (reversed) the spiral like ground on witch is drawn Mr Jack on the poster of Nightmare before Christmas

Thank you very much for your comments. It all started with one pattern, I wanted to make for the Patterns Forever project. I remembered the swirly cube was very popular in Cubeology, so I decided to make something similar. Once it was done, I couldn't resist the temptation to do further experimentation with...

@thalamic: You are the master of animated GIFs, I don't even know where to start. But maybe it's time learn new tricks.

@djnippa: It looks a bit more, but it wasn't that much work really. All 24 patterns are based on the same vortex (or its mirror) pattern. The rest was just an exercise of combinatorics, well, more or less.

thalamic's absolutely right: animate! Make it shake or rotate, it should be easy with patterns 16 to 20. Well, I guess so...

these remind be of some of Escher's work. wonderful eye candy and very engaging. although you state that they all originate from 1 or 2 basic patterns, they all look somewhat singular although related. a great technical achievement - making the complex seem simple and vice verso.
