@Gracian Gonzalez-Clemente it's because of 2:1 filters. one of the most simplest, albeit one of the worst ways to make a font bold. possible use your computer's bold version instead.
Oops. Typo. I actually meant "possibly" in "possible use your computer's bold version instead."
Kind of like what Minecraft does when handling bold text: it creates a second copy of the text and offsets it to create a bold effect. It also increases the spacing so the letters aren't colliding with each other.
@Tweety The Bird (bingula) I guess you're right. The AE ligature looks just like an obese E.
