If anyone knows how to remove empty glyphs I'm interested
Turn on Expert Mode, then Commands, then Remove empty glyphs.
You mean like glyphs that aren't filled with a single brick? You can't delete those, but you can reset the attributes of them to their default.
Also, I wonder if it'd work better if it were multiple fonts for each style.

also split the narrow and wider letters into separate fonts? I'll admit I didn't consider it, mostly because it's so much more fun and interesting to be able to mix and match :)
@Bingula Yh those, ah right I see. I think what happens is sometimes I'll start a new glyph, adjust the letter width, eventually give up and clear the grid except the width guide stays and keeps that glyph 'active' so to speak.
