I don't think that most people would bother with making a sub-standard font a top pick just so that they could clone it.

Please tell me this is a joke.

hey, ssaamm. easy on the young guy :) he's learning and has a lot of heart. there's a lot to be said for youthful enthusiasm and we should provide constructive criticism to encourage our fellow designers, regardless of how we feel personally about their work.

Yeah, ssaamm. Or should I say, fontinsulter? Since I'm not very popular, it's time I take matters in my own hands. So, it obvious you just insulted me. In fact, you just also insulted a young, 9-year old child! Don't you feel bad?

Sorry, I was not aware of your age.
Can we just leave this behind?
You can't hold this against me forever.

@CaptianOlimar: Your unconventional cloning scheme itself probably won’t earn the top pick, but I don’t think it earns ssamm’s sarcasm either. I really like the idea of well-loved fontstructions offering the clone function, but even more when they offer this before becoming top picks. : ) You’ve done well learning how to make all these characters, and now I suggest you learn how to make them all gel.

Two things to investigate further: x-height, which helps keep lowercase letters balanced in relation to one other; and eszett, which in your fontstruction is actually not bad looking kinda like a fortune cookie but you need to crack that baby open at the bottom left. ;)

@ssaamm: I second what funk_king said, go easy on the Captian. I observe CaptianOlimar playing around and testing boundaries by asking for a top pick, but he’s also creating something substantial considering where he’s coming from. I certainly didn’t have a clue what an extended character set nor diacritic was when I was his age. We all have things to learn, and in my storied experience of doling out sarcasm I never managed to impart any valuable teachings with it.

Oh, sorry, late post. Thank you for apologizing to CaptianOlimar ssaamm, that was kind of you.

this is like an episode of 'leave it to beaver' starring funk_king as wally, ssaamm as eddie haskell, will.i.ૐ as ward, and CaptianOlimar as the beaver :) but seriously, thanks to all parties for contributing to some positive vibes coming from this ...er, episode :) such a great way to keep the community going in the right direction. i'm sure ssaamm meant no personal injury. he has shown much passion in his work and overall support of Fontstruct and was probably concerned we might have another interloper on our hands :) will.i.ૐ you are a wonderful teacher and an inspiration; thanks for your contribution here. and Captian, continue to strive and challenge your talent. unless you ask of yourself (and others), it can't be given.

Hi Zach, you appear to be having a lot of fun here.

Look, I'm sorry if I upset you, but this just isn't worthy of a top pick. I was going to rage on you about your ego, but your only 9 years old and I'm sure you meant well. The key to getting top picks is not asking, but making great things. You will get much better over time, and this is a good start. If you allow people to make clones of your fonts, you could learn valuable things by how people change them and improve them. For example, I was planning on changing the form of the 'a' and improving the letter stroke thicknesses, but I couldn't make a clone of it.

Also: 'Since I'm not very popular, it's time I take matters in my own hands.' - Don't try to take popularity into your own hands; as you can probably see, that just makes you angry. If you're good, which will happen with time, you'll become popular.

Furthermore: 'In fact, you just also insulted a young, 9-year old child! Don't you feel bad?' - Don't try to play to people's emotions; when people are just being mean, they will often keep doing so. This time you were lucky enough to get someone who turned out to really care about your feelings eventually; usually on the Internet, people couldn't care less if they offended you - some even try to do just that.

Thanks - FTL
