'f' is always a bit of a problem - here is one possibility ...

The other thing to do with the 'f' is move the Letter Width one square to the left - I didn't make that very clear in my first pic.

This is often the best way to go with 'f's.

One reason I tend to work on a much larger scale is that it gives a lot more freedom to adjust the kerning for these 'awkward' glyphs.

Let's hear no false modesty ;) you have made excellent progress since you arrived here - and will go on to even better things.

It might be worth practicing on slightly larger grids to see how they feel - not every typographic test piece has to be published after all. I often play around with an idea for a while and, if it doesn't work out, delete it.
