An experimental 3-D/geometric font, inspired by Mynameiscapo's "Metal Hammer [beta]". My first attempt was "InTrude"; I tried to make it look like it's coming right out of the screen or off of the page, but it wasn't what I was looking for. After retooling it, here is the result: it works! See all fonts: "Backtrude", "OneQuarterTrude", "OneQuarterTrude Inverse", "MidTrude", "ThreeQuarterTrude", "ThreeQuarterTrude Inverse", "ExTrude", "InTrude", and "FrontTrude"

Congratulations! FontStruct Staff have deemed your FontStruction worthy of special mention. “Extrude” is now a Top Pick.

A masterful bit of craftsmanship (as is "Intrude") 10/10

Fantastic new font with convincing perspective effect. I like both versions. 10/10

@meek -- Thank you for the Top Pick! As always, it is most appreciated.

@p2pnut & @Frodo7 -- Thank you both for the kind words. Out of the perception of failure (InTrude) emerges success (ExTrude)!

It's awesome that you were able to formulate all those extrusion angles out of the fontstructor and then use them effectively.

I wish there was some way to animate the extrusion.

This gives an interesting effect I think. To say the least lol.

@thalamic -- Thank you for the kind words, Thalamic. Your animation idea has me inspired!

Honestly, only 45° and 30/60° angles were used with no composites or stacking. Starting with "InTrude's" grid (as seen in letter "b"), 25 single hollow Square bricks were arranged on the FontStruct grid. Unfortunately I spaced them too far apart for the proper effect, and the angles got too difficult to use at such a reduced size. The scale of the final product(s) was increased to 10x to match the scale of the original single-brick hollow square.

Starting from the center: if you go one row/column away, only 1/2 of the shadow is allowed to appear; at 2 rows/columns away, the full shadow appears. Cripsycraker's terrific animation shows how I simply flipped each of the 24 individual brick-groups vertically and then horizontally of the letter "a" to turn "InTrude" into "ExTrude". Of course, there was no need to flip the center brick!

Once the letter "a" was created, it was copied into each of the letters (A-Z, 0-9), and finally, the unnecessary bricks were eliminated to create the respective letters.

@crispycraker -- Thank you for the terrific animation. I'd have to wait until later to do so.

Excellent, Goatmeal. This multiple levels of extrusion set is exactly what I had in mind.

One final animation related thought: Fade out the extrusion. This means additional -trude fs, I'm afraid.

Ooooh! I do love a good bit of psychodelia :)

Excellent!!

Lol awesome animation Goatmeal. Now I think we need one more trude font to complete the whole inward/outward cycle for even more psychodelia :P
Comment by Ken Bruce (crispycraker) 19th august 2011
Now just add Midintrude, and your font family will be complete.

Ingeniously simple design for a complex animation sequence. Great work here Goatmeal!

@minimum, @p2pnut, @crispycraker, @BanjoZebra and @geneus1 -- Thank you all for the wonderful support. I don't know how I'd accomplish fading, but I do have some other ideas for a few more 'Trude fonts; hopefully to round out a more complete, fully-functional set...

@p2pnut, @laynecom, and @elmoyenique -- Thank you all for the kind words! Hopefully the newly-expanded 'Trude set is now a bit more useful for people who may want to create animated GIFs and the like.
