Wow! Beautiful, although I'm not convinced on the lowercase k/x. I could try cloning this and do some tweaks.
How about their current designs? I was shying away from those originally in favor of the originals, but I don't think the current ones conflict with the flat-topped requirement.

Yep, just what I had in mind. You could try making a B (and 8) where the middle is lower, and maybe switch U and V around.
U and V should've been switched from the start. I must've been absent-minded when editing those.
I'm reluctant to change the B and 8, since I consider them to be the best glyphs...
This is the best alternate B I was able to make which still adheres to the design rules, and it isn't nearly as good IMO. The line on the left side of the intersection is there more for style than it is to imply anything about the structure.
I thought of it like this... But they work just fine as is!
Added language support and finished the Basic Latin band.
